Trong bài phỏng vấn Quốc Bảo trên Vietimes có từ metrosexual làm mình tò mò

"Và có thể gọi Quốc Bảo là một "metrosexual" (theo nghĩa "người đàn ông hiện đại, độc thân, sống ở đô thị" - NV)?

- Ok, ok, đó là từ rất đẹp. Tôi coi như một lời khen. Và tôi nghĩ ai cũng thấy điều đó ở tôi"

Như vậy trong khái niệm Metrosexual đề cập tới một lifestyle của đàn ông đô thị. Đàn ông metrosexual là những người chú trong nhiều tới hình thức bên ngoài của họ và dành nhiều thời gian và tiền bạc cho việc này, quan tâm tới nhiều thứ trước kia chỉ chủ yếu dành cho phụ nữ: ví dụ làm đầu tóc, mua sắm hàng hiệu, chăm sóc thẩm mỹ…

Khái niệm này bắt đầu từ chỉ những người không phải gay nhưng có cách sống hay ăn mặc giống như các bạn gay sau đó được dùng rộng rãi hơn.

2. Các celebrity được coi là minh họa cho khái niệm.

3. Sự liên quan tới khái niệm Naricissism.

The metrosexual, in its original coinage, is a person who, under the spell of consumerism, is or desires to be what he sees in magazines and advertising. Simpson’s metrosexual would be a type A or type C narcissist, as he loves himself or an idealized image of what he would like to be.

Metrosexual khá gần với narcissist và quan tâm tới hình ảnh của bản thân hay các celebrity mà họ muốn học tập (ví dụ hình ảnh trên các tạp chí Esquire, quảng cáo của các ngôi sao như David Beckham, Brad Pitt…)

Tóm lại là đàn ông chải chuốt, chú ý nhiều tới ăn mặc, hình thức, chăm sóc sắc đẹp và hình ảnh của mình. Khái niệm này ra đời từ việc lấy lifestyle của các bạn gay là quy chuẩn và ngày càng trở nên phổ biến do sự chấp thuận ngày càng tăng của văn hóa gay (các show như Will & Grace chẳng hạn) đồng thời với chủ nghĩa tiêu dùng (sự khuyến khích và tạo hình ảnh đàn ông hiện đại trong media). Giải nghĩa về metrosexual của Vietimes có vẻ chưa chuẩn lắm, đơn giản quá. Giải nghĩa đó chỉ thể hiện chữ metro thôi chứ chưa giải thích chữ sexual.

4. Một nghĩa khác của metrosexual
